June 21, 2022: The Hudson Valley Humane Society announces the reopening of its Thrift Store & Boutique on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 11am. The Store has been lovingly renovated in memory of Detective Chris Lindsay who served at the NYPD for 25 years. Chris was a first responder assigned to the search and recovery efforts following the September 11th terrorist attacks upon the World Trade Center where he diligently served every day for months on end. Upon his retirement from the NYPD, Chris was diagnosed with stage-4 cancer unique to first responders at the World Trade Center, which took his life all too soon. Maureen Lindsay, his spouse, is the HVHS Executive Vice President and Board Member. She directed and financed the renovation of the Thrift Store to honor his memory and that of their two cherished dogs “Bella” and “Mia”, both Yorkshire Terriers. The grand re-opening coincides with what would have been Chris’ 53rd birthday. 100% of the proceeds generated by the Thrift Store are dedicated to the cost of veterinary care for HVHS animals. The Thrift Store will be open every Saturday and Sunday from 11:00am - 3:00pm and staffed by volunteers. Items for sale include: clothing for women, men and children, housewares, decorative items, tools, electronics, toys and pet goods. Donations to the store are by appointment only. "Chris' spirit and dedication to assisting those who need help continues through the efforts at the HVHS every day," commented AnnMarie Gaudio, HVHS President. She continued, 'he will never be forgotten and will forever be a part of the HVHS family."

Dear friends, Rockland County has experienced the retirement of 3 wonderful people all of whom were dedicated to animals and the people of our community. Most recently, Pat Coleman, Animal Control Officer for the Town of Clarkstown. I have known and had the pleasure of working with Pat for years. She assisted countless animals whether companion, stray or wild. Each time the Hudson Valley Humane Society received a call from Pat, we knew it was a unique situation. Pat would call, and with a chuckle ask, “do you have room for a pig?”. Our answer was always, yes, and this infamous stray pet pig named “Swag” graced the back of the Town’s animal truck more than once coming to the HVHS headquarters. Last year, 5 sheep and 1 goat needed rescue from a location in West Nyack and the HVHS needed help with transport. With an HVHS vehicle, assistance from the Rockland County Sheriff and the reliable Pat Coleman, all were safely transported to the HVHS headquarters in one convoy. Pat also assisted the HVHS

Springtime means adult female turtles will be leaving the safety of the reservoir and crossing Western Highway to lay their eggs. Sadly, each year turtles are killed, or severely injured, by cars along this heavily traveled residential road. In an effort to save them, The Hudson Valley Humane Society is coordinating this year’s Kick-Off Meeting regarding the plight of the Turtles of Western Highway.
