The Hudson Valley Humane Society is taking part in the PetSmart Charities National Adoption event on Saturday, May 5, 2011 from noon-4pm at PetSmart’s Nanuet store at 155 East Route 59. The event is proudly sponsored by Purina® Pro Plan®, Tidy Cats® and PetSmart®, and will take place in all 1,172 PetSmart® stores in the United States and Canada.  With the goal of saving the lives of homeless pets through adoption, the Hudson Valley Humane Society is one of more than 2,000 animal-welfare agencies in North America that is participating.  Pet lovers who are ready to make a lifetime commitment to a homeless pet are encouraged to visit and find a new companion.  Adopters will receive a promotional packet containing more than $200.00 in valuable coupons complements of the sponsors.  The overall goal of this adoption event is to place dogs, cats and small animals from local shelters across North America into loving new homes.  Not only will thousands of pets find new homes, but event sponsors Purina Pro Plan, Tidy Cats and PetSmart® are also providing free samples to everyone who adopts!

PetSmart Charities believes that pet adoption is critical to ending the tragedy of euthanasia – a tragedy that claims the lives of millions of homeless pets throughout North America every year.  Adopting a pet saves a life and adopters get a wonderful, lifelong companion.  The Hudson Valley Humane Society embraced a “no-kill” philosophy nearly 20 years ago and continues to help protect abused, neglected and unwanted animals in Rockland County.

In the U.S. alone, an estimated 6 million to 8 million dogs and cats enter animal shelters annually, but about half of them never find homes. Since 1994, more than 4.4 million pets have found homes through the PetSmart Charities Adoption Centers, which are located inside every PetSmart® store in North America.
